Color

Most of my walls are white. Painting intimidates me, but I'm constantly picking up paint
samples and dreaming up what color I'd paint my walls. I find myself asking what steps we'd have to take to paint such and such a room. Then I'd be pregnant and decide it wasn't a good time. Then I thought it'd be better to leave the walls "as is" so I wouldn't mind when they got a little roughed up by small children. But last Saturday at Home Depot, I saw $5 "oops paint" in a color I thought I might like, so we picked it up. For the bathroom. Our very small bathroom. It couldn't be that difficult. And it wasn't...for me! Kalai spent about 3 hours removing the border and taping! Kent put the stuff on the walls to cover the holes, DJ sanded, and I got to paint. I like this!
It's not done yet, but I think I'm going to like it. It's actually a darker color than this. Kalai called it "dark chocolate" as it really has a very brown look to it.
Now...for the rest of the house. What are your suggestions?

I love it! I love painting, though I'm not good at figuring out colors. This is why I let my sister decide for me (she's an interior redesigner). Looks great, though! :)

My living room and dining room are connected...in my living room I have two walls painted this similar chocolate color, and two walls a light gold. Then the dining room is all gold because I wanted a brighter feel in that room. I put the darker colors in the living room because I like to sit down and feel cozy in there. Different colors can influence how you feel in a room. Blues can make you cold, reds can make you hot, greens are suppose to induce thinking, yellow can give a headache, pink is suppose to be happy...etc. My husband had to take a class for his marketing degree that talked about the influence off colors on people. Also...blue is suppose to be an unappetizing color. So blue in a dining room or blue dishes are not what you want in a kitchen or eating area. UNLESS...you are dieting. ;o) I LOVED your turquoise sweater on Friday!

Thanks, Janelle, for the color ideas. I think I really tend towards lots of red. However, I have these blue and white dishes I love! What shall I do??? :)

I think blue dishes like yours are great. They're classic and look so fancy.....I just wouldn't paint a kitchen blue. We tried a swatch at our new Micah kitchen (ladies at church suggested a certain dark teal) but it was HORRID.

I agree, Corene. I just can't see blue on our kitchen walls! I'm definitely keeping the blue and white dishes, but I'm thinking they'd go with a nice warm color..even a red or some kind of brown/gray.

Christy- You should post a pic of your dishes. they sound pretty. They are probably ok because they have white in with them. I think it is solid blue dishes that you would want to steer clear of. What color are your counters and cabinets?
