And we roasted marshmallows

"What are going to do tonight?" That question is often asked at dinner, especially during the summer evenings. Too often, it's off to bath and bed for the younger ones, but I've been trying to have dinner a little earlier so we can do stuff like this!
Visit with our kids...
Get really sticky and full of sugar...

Give lots of reminders on fire "etiquette."

And admire those cute round bellies.

I suggested we try camping out in our backyard this summer and cooking our meals over our fire pit. DJ thought it was practically the best idea I'd ever had. I think it might be really nice...you know, I could still run in to have a shower and I wouldn't have to worry about packing all the "essentials." I'm really bad at that and keep thinking I'll remember "everything" the next time we go camping. HA! Still seriously contemplating this!
What do you roast over your campfires besides s'mores? Any neat ideas?

Kristy- We camped in our backyard last weekend. Amelia and Eli were both so excited. We roasted hotdogs for the kids and Jeremy and I had "camp stew". We made tin foil packets with stew meat, potatoes, peppers, onions, carrots, etc. I've seen it done with chicken and many other ingredients too. We put the packets right in the hot embers and cooked for about 45-60 minutes. They were delicious! Have fun.

Thanks, Carly! Those tin foil meals sound like something we'd enjoy...rather than just hotdogs (although that might be what our kids end up having!) :)

hot dogs!!! also, roast popcorn (in the jiffy pop foil bags), or you can do ka-bobs...with veggies and different fruits on there (pineapple is great to roast!)

Kabobs! Thanks for the ideas. I've also never heard of the popcorn foil bags. We love, love popcorn!
